Favorite console of a past generation?

originally posted by Karak (+2). last activity on August 19, 2008 @ 08:15 am

So what is yours? And seriously, only 1. Not a list. Just what is your favorite and what is your favorite game from it.

For me
Console: Sega Saturn
Game: Nights
Why: Because that was when gaming was getting larger, it was a Sega console and I loved their games. The gems like Virtua Fighter 2 that were well known were seperated by games like Dragon Force and Iron Storm that kept me up with my friends until the sun came up just playing and laughing. Network adapters allowed us to play Duke Nukem 3d over the internet as well as Sega Rally.
Amazing times.

GENESIS DOES... NINTEN(still)DOn't!

I'll have to think of a particular game and update this, if it allows me to!

Only one console is really a hard choice.

For me it would be the Genesis/Mega Drive.

The favorite game would be Shining Force II.

The reason I chose the Mega Drive is that with this console gaming started to get social for me. I had friends who also where on the same wave and we had the most fun possible on one screen. I made friends back then which still visit me to play games or we meet up on XBL/PC online.

Console: Sega Saturn
Game: Dragon Force
Why: The only system to produce a fighting game (Virtual Fighter 2) that I played DAYLY after work for nine months straight (Damn you Lau and Kage!!). Dragon Force was the first RPG in which I beat the game with all of the characters over and over again without getting bored.

There is only one valid answer to this question and that is SNES and Chrono Trigger.

Best RPG ever, and best system ever.

Heh, yeah Chrono Trigger and a certain Square RPG are the only reasons I'm sad that I never owned a SNES.

You'll have a chance to get it again when it comes out the DS soon.

I know, I'm really looking forward to playing through it again.

I like the DS and its a good place to put games like this but a I would rather have a full new sequel.

Have you played Chrono Cross? It was suppose to be a sequel, but it never felt the same.

User Avatarrandomfool (+3) posted on August 12, 2008 @ 12:32 am:

Chrono Cross was a great game. I do agree it didn't really feel like CT.
I think that CC was the last big PS/PS2 RPG I played all the way through. After that I just lost interest in the genre and moved on to other things.

There was also Radical Dreamers which was the real sequel to CT but a completely different type of game. Link CC's story was based somewhat on RD.

Super Nintendo Entertainment System
So many great games, but I have to go with Super Metroid.
Such a magnificent experience that I have played it to completion many times. Sadly, I don't even own it, although that doesn't stop me from playing it :). I do have the Japanese version, but I still need to get my hands on a U.S. cart.

Super Metroid was a blast. One of the games that make me sad that 2D has gone the way of the Dodo.

I hope that with XBLA, PSN and WW those type of games get their second chance.

@ dssj: I would love to see Super Metroid get the Bionic Commando: Rearmed treatment. That would be amazing. Sadly, I don't see Nintendo going this route.
