What do you find most annoying?

Now that the initial awesomeness has worn off, I find myself wondering why certain design moves were made with GTA4.

I for one, despise the save system. Its the same as it was in all the previous games, and honestly needs to be revamped. When you're sand-boxing it really doesn't matter, but when you're in the midst of a long mission where you spend 20 minutes performing certain tasks then get killed because you accidentally took cover behind an exploding barrel (I didn't even realize there were exploding barrels in the game... until I was killed by one) or car, its truly frustrating.

I think I wouldn't mind if the game let you restart from a specific cut scene during the mission, but you've got to go through the whole mission again. Two separate missions this past Friday night found me dying near the end and needing to restart... After it happened the second time, I just shut off the 360 and played Gears of War PC instead.

Another issue is the default chase camera for driving... it sits just a hair lower than it needs to sit, so I'm constantly using the right stick to move it ever so slightly upwards. I don't mind the driving, but the camera aspects are just annoying.

First, let me say that this is the best GTA game I’ve ever played and I have been playing since GTA III. That said, I agree with the exploding barrels. Funny the first time, rage inducing the twentieth time. Other than that I’m ok with the other stuff you mentioned.

My issues are just nit picky stuff really, but this is what the thread is about so here goes. I like the added weight of the cars, but I hate the 5mph turning radius of a tanker that all the cars have as well. I also like the option of auto targeting, but hate that you can’t do something like that while driving (or for god sake while you’re a passenger!).

Something I hate in any game sequel is when they remove previous optional features. For example, in GTA: SA (San Andreas) you could improve your character by lifting weights, improving your riding skill, and/or improve car handling by doing these things in the game. Now I know they were not deep, but at least they were there. Now, no matter how much driving I do, every car steers like I’m on gravel… wet, icy gravel.

Speaking of cars, what happened to moding the cars? Again, I know it wasn’t deep, but to remove it? It’s kinda sad when the imitators are doing it better than you in the last game (Saint’s Row is awesome as well if you’re looking for another GTA style game).

Again, I love this game for what it does well, but it is far from amazing.

@ Ronin: Modding was removed because it was considered just too damn cool and they had already pegged their cool meter.
But I agree with you. I think the main aspect that has caused me to totally ignore this game after 2-3 days was the lack of characterization that I could do.
