Last night I was messing around on Steam and found Audiosurf. $10 for a game that basically everyone in the biz raves about. You can take your existing audio files, throw them at this game, and "play your music" by driving some sort of vehicle down a road, collecting colored 'cars'. I figured I'd drop the $10 and just go in without trying the demo. The concept was sound, so I had to find something I liked right?

Its part puzzle game, part rhythm game, and I'm mostly confused at where the love for this title has come from. While its neat that you can put any audio track into the game, and the tempo of the music determines your experience, the combination of puzzle elements and driving annoy the piss out of me. I'm too busy collecting 'cars' to really care about what my 'stacks' are doing.

Most of the music I listen to is upbeat also, so I don't have time to think "well, I need a red block now to complete this set and score". By the time I think about it, I've collected other 'cars' and it doesn't matter anymore.

Can anyone tell me what I'm missing? I'll try it some more for sure, but I can't help but feel a little cheated. Caveat Emptor I guess...
